Department of Zoology
Brief History of the Department: The Department of Zoology came into existence along with the establishment of this college in the year 1965. Initially it started a course with a combination of Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry (BZC) and the medium of instruction was English. In the year 1998, a new course with new combination i.e., Microbiology, Zoology, Chemistry (MZC) was introduced.
The M.Sc. Zoology programme was introduced in the year 2009 with an intake of 30 students. It is a self financed course and was started with an intention to provide higher education to rural and socially backward women.
At present the department has spacious class rooms with OHP and LCD projectors that are well suited for UG and PG classes separately. The Departmental library has been maintained with 400 books. The Department has a computer with internet facility and a printer. Well equipped laboratories with equipment like Gel electrophoresis, Spectrophotometer, Colorimeter, Trinocular research microscope, Microtome are available.
The Department has made a good effort to establish a museum with a large number of specimens, models which also facilitate as additional aids in teaching. Vision:
