OVERVIEW


ORIGIN

In the days when the opportunities for women were scarce in Warangal, the elite of the historical city felt the need for an educational institution exclusively for women. It is because of the generous donation of their ancestral building and place by the Pingle family, Pingle Government Degree College for Women was established on 16-08- 1965 in the pastoral surroundings of Waddepally, Warangal. The institution caters to women's education. In a campus area of four acres, with two security personnel round the clock, college provides adequate security to the students. With modest strength of 67 students and 11 teaching faculty members, in the year 1965, the college today has strength of about 1500 students and 70 sanctioned teaching faculty. College celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 1991 and awaits Golden Jubilee celebrations in the year 2015.

COURSES OFFERED

The college sensing the impending challenge of many co-educational and women's colleges in private sector aspires to keep up its prestigious position by offering an exciting range of conventional, restructured, self- financed courses amply supported by certificate courses and an add-on course. The college is highly motivated to mould the disadvantaged learners into knowledged and responsible citizens, so it carries out variegated programmes of curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular, research and extension activities. The college imparts value-based education to women to meet the modern day challenges.

ACCREDITATION

During the academic year 2011, the college was assessed and re-accredited by NAAC with B grade (securing CGPA 2.79 on a 4 point scale).

AUTONOMY

College has initiated the process of autonomy. High Power Committee, from Kakatiya University visited the college on 17-07-2013. Confidential reports have been sent to UGC, New Delhi for conferment of autonomy.

HISTORY


BACKGROUND OF THE INSTUTUTION

The college owes its existence to the generosity of the Pingle family for their donation of the building and land the donors being Sri Pingle Venkatrama Reddy, the Dy. Prime Minister in Nizam Dynasty and his two brothers Sri Pingle Krishna Reddy and Sri Pingle Ranga Reddy. On 16-08-1965 the building was handed over to the Government for establishing an Institution of higher learning to be named after Pingle family. The Pingles are known for their generosity and philanthropy in these parts and elsewhere. They have donated lands, property and huge funds in public causes. The family has many famous descendants. Sri Pingle Jagan Mohan Reddy had been the Honorable Justice of Supreme Court of India and Chief Justice of A.P. High Court. Subsequently he had been the Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University in seventies. He rendered honorary service informed by deep concern for the welfare of the society. Smt. J. Kumudini Devi the daughter of Sri. Pingle Venkatarama Reddy was the first Lady Mayor of Hyderabad. In short the Pingles remain out and out the most Nationalistic, Humanistic, Philanthropic and Liberated. All of us owe deep gratitude to the donor family.

The college has illustrious formative and developmental history. Starting with Pre-University Course (now called as Intermediate in Andhra Pradesh) in the faculties of Arts, Commerce and Science in both English and Telugu media in the building donated by the Pingle family merely with 67 students and 11 members on the staff, it has witnessed continuous development in expanding the courses. In 1966-67 the college saw the introduction of the degree courses in B.A. (H.P.P), B.A. (E.P.P.) and B.Sc. (B.Z.C) in both English and Telugu media with affiliation to Osmania University, Hyderabad. In 1978 the college was affiliated to Kakatiya University. By 1991 the institution evolved into a multi-faculty composite having a strength of 2,000 students, 100 members on the teaching staff and 50 on the non-teaching. The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 1991.

Besides catering to scholastic needs the College attaches great importance to extra and co-curricular activities in an attempt to produce physically and mentally alert citizens of India.

VISION

  • The vision of the institution is to meet the growing requirements of higher educational needs of socially, economically backward rural women in the region. The motto of Pingle Government College is "Enter to Learn - Leave to Serve." The institution empowers the students with knowledge to fulfill the tag-line of the College i.e."powered by intellect and driven by values".

MISSION

  • The vision and mission of the institution is communicated to the students, staff and other stake holders through the college prospectus. The same is displayed on the notice board.
  • To provide higher education to girl students from all sections of society particularly those from lower strata.

  • To empower the students with appropriate skills to face the trends of a competitive job market.

  • To encourage all round personality development of the students.

  • To meet the educational needs of the disadvantaged sections.

  • To encourage advanced learners to take up study projects so as to develop the spirit of research in them.

  • To inculcate moral values and feel their responsibility towards the society.

  • To provide opportunity to faculty members to update their knowledge, teaching and research.
