Department of Chemistry
Brief History of the Department:
The Department of chemistry was established since the very inception of the college in 1965 for the Pre-University course (PUC) with MPC and Bi.PC groups and later modified as intermediate course according to Government policy. Undergraduate course B.Sc (B.Zc.) was started in the academic year 1966-67 and B.Sc. (MPC) in 1994. B.Sc. (M.Z.C) with Microbiology, Zoology and Chemistry as main electives was started in the academic year 2002-03, B.Sc. Biotechnology with Biotechnology, Botany and chemistry was started in the academic year 2005-06.
The department has four well furnished laboratories which are not only used for regular classes but also used to pursue minor / major research project work by the staff and for study projects by the students. There is a departmental library which has a rare collection of books for reference, useful even for the advanced studies.
The department provides excellent learning in chemistry through its dedicated faculty members by means of new teaching and learning methods. At present 06 faculty members are working in the department out of which three are doctorates and three are pursuing Ph.D in various universities like one in Osmania University , one in Vellore Institute of Technology and one in National Institute of Technology. All the faculty members are constantly updating themselves to the modern method of teaching by attending various refresher courses, seminars and workshops. It is a matter of pride that some students who have studied here have pursued higher studies and placed in a high position in the society.
Vision: ‘Promote, inspire, and nurture the fundamentals of chemistry for the development of the institution.’ Mission: By igniting enthusiasm among the students to pursue chemistry subject in their future. Provide students with a more holistic view of chemistry through an emphasis on its interdisciplinary nature.
