    • The Department of Physics was established in the year 1974 with B.Sc. courses with Physics as one of the subjects. It is affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana State. The courses offered are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry(MPC) , Mathematics, Physics, Statistics (MPS) and Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science (MPCs).

      Presently the department consists of three regular faculty members.

      The Department of Physics is dedicated to provide an enriched platform for the students  to empower through  innovative knowledge and information; to inculcate humanistic, moral and ethical values; to compete with the challenges and  mould them as building blocks of  future.

      Objectives :

      • To promote improved quality of education, knowledge and skills for employability.
      • To cater the needs of all students.
      • To focus on the job opportunities and placements..
      • To enhance creative thinking and implementation to achieve future goals and meet the challenges.
      • To provide full fledged moral support through ward counseling.
      • Following mentor-mentee system scrupulously.
      • Orientation classes for newly admitted students.
      • To inculcate a sense of responsibility towards society, patriotism and to instill moral values in the young minds through awareness and sensitization programmes.
      • To promote a scientific temperament and competitive spirit among the youth encouraging them to participate in the Inter-Collegiate programmes.
      • To provide service to the nation through NSS awareness activities like clean & green, health & hygiene , surveys and  fieldworks.
      • To refresh and update the faculty with the improvised curriculum developments thereby enhancing their teaching standards.
      • To enhance teaching methodology through multimedia teaching aids like ICT tools, Virtual and Digital classrooms.

      Innovative Practice:

      Pride activity of Department of Physics

      BJR Government Degree College got approval as Nodal Center  ( one of the five Nodal Center Colleges of Telangana State)  for implementing Virtual Labs by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala and  Physics Department Faculty Smt. S.Radhika and Dr.S.E.Naina Vinodini are the Nodal Coordinators for conducting Virtual Lab Experiments.

      T-SAT PRESENTATIONS-

      O.Gopala Krishna of  II yr B.Sc.MPCs participated in the Student as Teacher programme and has given  a live telecast presentation on the Physics  topic entitled ‘Entropy’ on  17-09-19  under the able guidance of  Smt.S.Radhika.

      JIGNASA 2019-20

      Supervised a team of five students for the State –level Jignasa Physics Student study Project presentation  on the topic entitled “ Nano-materials- Investigations on Preparation and Properties of various Transparent Conductive Oxide (ZnO)  Thin films”  Organised by Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Government of Telangana  State at Government City College on 05-02-2020.

      INTERNAL COMPLAINTS COMMITTEE (ICC)   —

      Internal complaints Committee (ICC) is envisaged to receive complaints on sexual harassment at the workplace from an aggrieved woman, as well as to inquire and make recommendations to the employer on the action required pursuant to its inquiry on such complaints made.

      EXTENSION ACTIVITIES :-

      WORKSHOP  ORGANISED:-

      Institutional level Wokshop was organized by Department of Physics  on “ Virtual –Lab Experiments“ on 04-01-2020.  Dr.R.Komala from  Department Of Physics, St. Pious Degree & PG College for Women, Nacharam, Hyderabad was Resource person. Hands- on–training session was conducted for the students.

      A webinar was organized by  the Department Of Physics on the topic “ Unification of Forces” for all B.Sc. Physics students and  Resource person for the lecture was  Sri.K.Subba Rao,  Department Of Physics, Sarojini naidu Vanita Mahavidyalaya, Nampally, Hyderabad on 12-05-2020.

      Inter-disciplinary motivational webinar talk was organized by Department of Physics on the topic “Art of Learning” on 15-05-2020.  Prof.A.Goverdhan, Rector and Registrar I/c, JNTUH  impressed the students of the college and inspired them  about  the changes in the learning mechanism during the pandemic situation.

      NATIONAL WEBINAR ON DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION- PEDAGOGICAL CHANGES   (03-09-2020)

      A National level webinar on Digital Transformation – Pedagogical Changes was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)  convened by Smt. S.Radhika ( Incharge – Department of Physics) on 03-09-2020.

      PARENT-TEACHER  INTERACTIONS :-

      Parent teacher meeting was organized  in the college campus on 07-03-2020 to review the progress of students.

      An online meeting with students and parents was organized on 11-05-2020 to make sure that students are supported with reading material, question banks during COVID-19 pandemic period.

      FIELD TRIPS  :-

      Students of  B.Sc. Physical Sciences visited Department Of Physics, University College of Science, Osmania University on 03-02-2020.

      Students have visited the Laboratories and have seen on-going research works.

      In particular, DC Magnetron Sputtering Equipment used for coating thin films was explained by the Head of Physics Department,

      Prof. G. Prasad.

      Department of Physics- (2019-20)

      BJR Government Degree College is selected as Nodal Centre  for conducting Virtual Lab Experiments in consultation with “Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham” , KeralaSmt.S.Radhika and

      Dr.S.E.NainaVinodini are Nodal Co-ordinators for this  programme. Our college is among the five colleges in Telangana State to implement this facility to the students. The Nodal Centre  Program is an exciting new venture which provides a platform for the Teachers and Students to contribute towards future development of Virtual labs and Experiments . This program is sponsored by MHRD-(NME-ICT)). This initiation was taken by the Physics Department which is an Inter-disciplinary program includes the Departments of Physical Sciences , Life Sciences and  Computer Sciences to meet the present Student strength. The main intention of the program is to provide opportunity for the students to learn Experiments thoroughly.

      STUDENT PARTICIPATIONS :-

       

      • Science Awareness programme

      Students participated in the “ March for Science” meeting and  rally organised by Break through Science Society on August 9th 2019 . The Objectives of  this meeting are

      1. Stop propagation of un-scientific ideas and develop Scientific temper and human values
      2. Ensure that Education system does not impart ideas that are not based on or contradict Scientific Evidence.

       

      2) Students participated in the T-SAT Nipuna organised by CCE  in the  Student as Teacher programme .  B.Sc. II yr MPCs student O.Gopala Krishna was selected for this program  for the live presentation in MANA TV  on the topic entitled “Entropy” on 17-09-2019.

      STATE BEST TEACHER AWARD-2020

      S.Radhika, Lecturer in Physics has been awarded State best Teacher Award on 5th September 2020.
