    •   Profile of the Department of Chemistry

       

      The Department of Chemistry was established in 1973. The Chemistry course was introduced incombinationwithBotanyandZoology.In1998BScMPCwasintroduced.TheDepartmentwasstrengthened with the introduction of MSc Organic Chemistry in 2005 with an intake of 30 students. TheDepartmentwasservedby20eminentpersonalitieslikeNaseemaSultana,SriT.LaxmanRao,andSri.

      M.A. Biyabani, Dr. P. Ramesh, G. Manasa and presently headed by Dr. M. Prashanthi. Presently FourFacultymembers,oneRecordAssistantandoneOffice SubordinateservingintheDepartment.

      1. Provide students with a more holistic view of chemistry through emphasis on its interdisciplinarynature by using specific examples to illustrate connections between chemistry and other scienceareas.
      2. By igniting, nurturing enthusiasm, interests and passion among the students to pursue chemistrysubjectintheirfurtherprofessionalcourses.
      3. To create and maintain the programs of excellence in the area of chemistry, science and publicoutreach.

      Objectives:

       

      1. The student will understand the importance of the Periodic Table of the Elements, how it came tobe,anditsroleinorganizingchemicalinformation.
      2. The student will understand the interdisciplinary nature of chemistry and to integrate knowledgeofmathematics,physics,andotherdisciplines toawidevarietyofchemicalproblems.
      3. Thestudentwilllearnthelaboratoryskillsneededtodesign,safelyconductandinterpretchemicalresearch.
      4. The student will acquire a foundation in chemistry of sufficient breadth and depth to enable themtounderstandandcriticallyinterpretthe primarychemicalliterature.

      1. Thestudentwilldeveloptheability   to   effectively   communicate   scientific   informationandresearchresultsinwrittenandoralformats.
      2. Thestudentwilllearnprofessionalism,includingtheabilitytoworkinteamsandapplybasicethicalprinciples.

      The Department has two laboratories with fully equipped material. The Department has a separateresearch laboratory with equipments like UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Microwave oven, Hot air oven etc.,The Departmenthasa verygood library withnearly 200 reference books.The Departmentconsistsoffour faculty members. One of the faculty members Dr. G. Srinivas is a member of BOS in Chemistry inSatavahana University & PGCW (A) Hanmakonda. He is author of 2 books referred as text books for theSkill Enhancement Coursesin the 3rd & 4th Semester of UnderGraduate Chemistry StudentsunderOsmaniaUniversity.

      In the past 4years the Department has organized many extension lectures, four national webinars,one international webinar, and one day orientation program on NEP with eminent speakers. Two days selfhelp training program (SHTP) on domestically useful house hold products was organised forthe benefitof the students to earn while learning.Extension program of SHTP was conducted by UG and PGstudentsatGovernmentHighSchool,Dhangarwadi,Karimnagar.

      TheDepartmenthasorganisedfieldtripstoKarimnagardairy,NITWarangal,SatavahanaUniversity along with UG and PG Students. The department has conducted many co-curricular activitieslikequiz,groupdiscussions,elocution,andnearly25online quizzes.

      The department celebrates important days Science day, World milk day, Mendaleev’s birthday,Technologydayetc.

      Thedepartmentorganizedfourcertificatecoursesduring2017-2022.

       

      The department organized RUSA sponsored interdisciplinary Two DayNational seminar onRecent Advances in Science and Technology For Sustainable Development on 16th and 17th September2022. The department thrives to create and facilitate an environment for the students to probe, search,learnandevolveintoaneffectivesocialbeing.
