    • 1.ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

      1.Economics was one of the optional subjects in BA(EPP) Telugu Medium course. The  Department of Economics was established in 1966 in Vivekananda Government Degree college.

      2.Economics is a social science which deals with production, consumption, distribution and exchange of various goods and services. Economics studies the behaviour of individuals and organisations in society. Hence, Economics is regarded as the Queen of all social sciences.

      3.The central focus of Economics is on Scarcity of resources and choice among their alternative uses.

      4.The word ‘Economics’ was derived from two Greek words, oikos(a house) and nemein (to manage) which would mean ‘managing a household’ using the limited funds available, in the most satisfactory manner possible.

      5.Adam Smith was an 18th century Scottish economist, philosopher and author, considered as the Father of Economics.
