Overview about the Department in VGDC 1966-till now

Public administration is one of the youngest academic disciplines in the family of social sciences. As an academic discipline, it has its origin in the United States. With the publication o the seminal essay ‘The study of Administration’ written by Woodrow Wilson in 1887 laid the foundations for developing into a full pledged academic discipline. Ever since the publication of the essay several eminent scholars like Frank Goodnow, L.D  White, Henry Fayal, J.D, Mooney, Luther Gullick .L.Urwick, Elton Mayo, Chester I Barnard, F.M Marx, Herbert A. Simon etc., have had enriched the discipline with their many a scholarly publications.

The Public Administration, as an academic discipline took birth in India only after its independence. The first full pledged independent academic department was established in the Nagpur University in 1948. Since then, the discipline has slowly and firmly spread to different universities in the country. The discipline has got greater patronage in the Osmania University under the academic leadership of Prof M.A. Muthalib.

Public administration in one of the popular and most farmred academic subjects for the civil service aspirants, with its introduction as one of the optional subjects by both UPSC and

State Public Service Commision’s in the country, innumerable candidates got selected to the civil services.

Realizing the growing importance of the subject, the College was established in 2016. The department offers instructions in three media English, Urdu and Telugu, to cater the needs and requirements of the catchment area where the college is located.The department offers the curriculum, prepared by the department of Public Adminstration Osmania University, Hyderabad, one of the reputed Universities of the country for both UG and PG.  Recently Osmania University has introduced CBCS pattern of syllabus, so as to developed and enrich the skills of the students in the respective disciplines, where students are having the option to choose the subjects that are useful form them in achieving their objectives and goals.

• To inculcate among students about administration of the society and as well as family.
• To create awareness among the students about similarities and dissimilarities of the central and state government and the required changes in the current scenario.

• To provide spirit of research & creativity among the students.
• To strengthen qualitative and quantitative programmes of the students. 
• Motivating the students to appear for UPSC and TSPSC competitive Exams.

ACTIVITIES:

1. Teaching- Learning Process:   In view of changed scenario of teaching-learning process and to cope up with the fast growing changes in   education system, the department has been following and adopting new and innovative teaching techniques, such as interaction sessions, debate sessions, seminars, group discussions, quiz, project works, ppts, learning through print and electronic media, besides class-room learning.  In addition to this, the department is encouraging students to watch debates, discussion, and teaching techniques on TV Channels, so that they should not be lagging behind about the current political scenario. 
2. Evaluation System:  The evaluation of the students is done periodically.  Slip tests, surprise tests, assignments, internals and externals (Semester exams) are held so as to evaluate the student’s performance. The department realizes the importance of the subject for preparing to competitive exams. Our students are given necessary guidance for the preparation of these exams at a national level and at state level (UPSC & TSPSC).    
3. Departmental Library: Department has a good number and collection of books to cater the needs of the students.  The department stress upon improving the reading habit among the students.  Popular Journals such as India Today, Frontline, Competitive success, EPW Indian journal of Public Administration,, Review of public personnel administration etc., are readily available for the students. Urdu, Telugu and English books, magazines are also kept in the library. The department has always been encouraging to read news papers, journals, magazines and maintain record of articles that are politically significant. 
4. Co-curricular activities:   As a part of co-curricular activities, the department organizes number of field trips for the students, such as visits to Osmania University, Maulana Azad National University, State Legislative Assembly, Women Prison Cell, and

Historical Tours. 

1. Social Activities:   The department has established an enabling unit for differently able students and encourages the admissions for such kind of students.  The department also encourages students to participate in various social activities, such as NSS Programme, Health camps,  Mahendi designing programmes, Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, Blood- donation camps, Rallies under special camps on the occasions of  International Women day, Human Rights Day, etc., so as to bring awareness among the people.  During natural calamities, our students get actively involved in collecting relief funds.
