       DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY   
       
            Zoology is the branch of biology that studies the animal kingdom,including the structure, embryology,evolution, classification habits and distribution of all animals both living and extinct and how they interact with their ecosystems. 
       
      History of the Department
       
            The Department of Zoology was established in the Year 2008 in  Govt. Degree College,kukatpally affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad .  At that time there was only one group i.e., Botany,Zoology,Chemistry with Telugu medium.
       
            In the year 2018 the restructured course in Microbiology and Biotechnology and computer science is introduced with the combination of Zoology and Chemistry.In the year 2019 and 2020 new courses were added I.e Bt.B.Z,B.Z.CA,MB.BT.Z and Z.PSY.CS(MOOCS).
       
            When the BZC course was started, there was only one contract post sri HARINATH.Later in the year two regular posts were sanctioned as per the strength of the students. 
       
            In the year 2018 Smt.P.Jyothirmayi and Sri G.Sadayakumar has joined in the department as Lecturer by general transfers.
      OBJECTIVES:
      1.To provide a strong foundation in the concepts of animal structure and physiology 
      2 To provide practical skills and knowledge of applied aspects of zoology for self employment opportunities in Aquaculture, Apiculture, vermiculture, poultry and animal husbandry. 
      3.To inculcate critical thinking and analytical skills to enable students to pursue higher studies and research in life sciences or related fields of zoology.

      METHOD OF ASSESSING THE STUDENTS:
       
      The method of assessing our students academic standards after admission in order to provide enrichment is through:
       
      1.    Monthly tests.
                                2.      Assignments and Group discussions
      3.    Seminars by students
       
            On the basis of the above, the students are analised as poor, average and bright.
       
      Ø  The poor students provided with remedial coaching
      Ø  The average students are given assignments.
      Ø  The bright students are allotted study projects.
       
       
      TEACHING AIDS AND METHODS:
       
            Apart from usual chalk and board methods all the faculty members make use of various models to explain the lesson and underlying principles in different theories.
       
            Charts and overhead projector is used for better understanding and easy remembrance of the topic.
       
            Chapter wise quiz questions are prepared and a quiz is conducted in the classrooms.
       
            Students attend Mana TV classes, where regularly telugu coverage will be there.
       
      EVALUATION:
       
            For every class unit tests are conducted regularly.  After correction of the papers students were made aware of their mistakes.
       
            Pre-Final Examinations are conducted keeping in view of the scheme and pattern of the forth coming public Examinations.
       
            A number of Assignments were given in each class.  Students prepared a number of charts in the given assignments.
       
      REMEDIAL COACHING:
       
            Remedial classes were conducted for 2nd and 3rd year students.  Students were selected for remedial coaching basing on their performance in the university Examination.
       
            Such remedial classes were conducted during the regular study hours in the college premises after the college instruction hours are over.  Remedial coaching is for poor grasping students             
       
                             
       
                           
       
       
       
       
       
            The department is regularly encouraging the students to participate in seminars there and the students are encouraged in dealing a class with confidence.
       
            In the year 2009-2010 nearly 27 seminars were conducted by the students of I, II & III year B.Sc., classes.
       
            In the year 2010-2011 nearly 36 seminars were conducted by the students of I, II & III year B.Sc., classes.
