      The Department was established in 2008, with a vision to empower the learners, make them confident and successful in life gaining proficiency in English Language. A total of 228 students from B.A, B.Com and B.Sc. courses learn General English. The Department follows the Curriculum of Osmania University. The textbooks are:

      BEST PRACTICES OF THE DEPARTMENT- English Language Learning Website 

       

      The Department has its own website to enhance English Language Skills of students. Smt.Roopna Ravindran, Assistant Professor of English designed the website during the pandemic so that students do not miss any opportunity to learn English when they do not have library books and materials in hand. The website has PDFs of all the topics in the curriculum prescribed by Osmania University. There are also video lessons, notes, a section to practice LSRW skills,  Student Seminars, Audio books, films, Reference books and many other resources for learning English Language. All the topics mentioned in the curriculum prescribed by Osmania University are made available to students in the website. The topics are presented in a communicative language teaching method. The topics are also related to the socio political contexts of the students.  The website is helpful for all the UG students of Osmania University. Students can learn at their own pace at their convenient time using the website.

      GENERAL ENGLISH CLASSES

       

       

         

       

          

      The English classes are student-centered, interactive and dialogic. Students engage in pair work, group work, activities, seminars, presentations and group discussions. In this way, learners get maximum opportunities to use English language in real life scenarios. Much importance is given to the 21st century skills like critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, technology literacy, leadership, social skills, etc.

      Student Seminars and Group Discussions

       

      Students energetically participate in English Language games and activities on a regular basis. "Learn English, Have Fun" programme was organised to create enthusiasm among the rural students to learn English. The Department organises trainings and workshops for students on "English for Competitive Exams", Soft Skills, Communication skills and Personality Development. During the COVID-19 Lockdown period, the Department conducted an International E-Quiz competition in association with the Department of Commerce. It also organised a National E-Quiz which received wide acclaim from student participants all over India. English Language Day Competitions are conducted every year. Last year the competitions received great response from students pan India. The winning entries of the competitions are displayed on the English Language Learning Website hosted by the Department.

      • Smt. Roopna Ravindran was one of the resource persons in an Interactive Workshop on “Perspectives of Teaching English Language: The English Turf” held at Telugu Mahila Vishwavidyalayam, Koti, Hyderabad. Prof. Muralikrishna, Dean, Osmania University, was the Chief Guest of the workshop
      • Smt.Roopna Ravindran, Assistant Professor of English was one of the resource persons of the Orientation programme for English Lecturers at TARA GC, SangaReddy
      • Smt. Roopna Ravindran was the JIGNASA State Coordinator in 2019-20 and 2021-22
