      Department Profile

      Brief History of the College:

      The college was started in the premises of the Quilla Jail on the auspicious day of 12th July 1956. The college had the good fortune of having Sri P.L.N. Sharma, the doyen of the Osmania University teachers, as its founder principal who built up an excellent image of the institution. This college appeared for assessment and accreditation from NAAC in 2004. Another feather in the cap of the college is the status of “College with Potential of Excellence” (CPE) awarded by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Again in 2012 college went for re – assessment and re – accredited with “B” Grade by NAAC. 

      About the department of History:

      Vision:

      The History Department aims to make the students aware of the past and its legacies through teaching, research and extension activities in Indian history in the context of world history.  We believe that only a critical understanding of the past will enable the students to understand the present and help them look towards the future.

      Mission:

      • Transform the students into citizens who are critically informed about the past and its consequences for the present

      • Promote studies in history, society and culture of Telangana in general and Telangana history in particular 

      • Empower students to cope with the challenges of globalization by instilling in them a life-long passion for learning about the past. The knowledge about the interconnections between the global, national, regional and local history will equip the students to face the challenges with confidence.

      The Department of History was established with the inception of the college as one of the popular departments of the college. Right from the beginning, the department was headed by the great history teachers like Sri A.V. Sastri, Dr. K. Subramanyam, Smt. Hemavathi, Sri A.M. Subba Rao, Sri B. Narsimha Rao, Sri D. Bhaskar Reddy, Sri M. Narayan Reddy, Sri Mohd. Naseeruddin and Sri K. Naresh Kumar. Ancient History of India, Medieval History of India, Modern History of India, Modern Andhra Pradesh History and World History were taught by these teachers.

      The teachers of the department taught their students very efficiently with their thorough knowledge of the subject and moulded the students as responsible citizens of this country. Alumni of this college will always take pride in being students of this department in particular. They always cherished their study in this college and the department.

      Many of the students of this department occupied positions like advocates, lecturers, administrators and teachers. The department imparts the subject in three media i.e. Telugu, Urdu and English.

      Presently the department consists of four regular faculty and one contract faculty; they are Sri N. Ramesh Goud, Sri T. Devanna, Dr. D.K. Raju, Sri M. Kumara Swami and Dr.Mohd.Mubeenuddin respectively.

      CURRICULUM:

      Up to 1993 the department followed the syllabus designed by Osmania University, in 1993 the syllabus of the department was switched over to the common core syllabus introduced by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. The faculty of the department strictly adhered to the academic schedule as the almanac of Osmania University, Hyderabad. From 2004 – 2005 the College got Autonomous status and the semester system was introduced in the examination.  At present the college is affiliated to Telangana University, Dichpally and follows the common core syllabus framed by the TSCHE.

      CBCS Model Syllabus is introduced in the academic year 2014 -2015.

      The department maintains attendance registers of the students, teaching diaries, department activities register and marks register. The department prepares an annual academic plan with seminars, quiz and group discussions etc. 

      CO – CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

      To enrich the knowledge of the students the department conducts student seminars and assignments on the subject.

      Based on the performance of the students remedial classes are conducted for the slow learners.

      Non – history students who ever take admission  into  B.A group with history as one of the subjects are taught bridge classes to prepare them to understand history properly.

      Education tour was conducted on 10.02.2017, tour coordinator Sri Laxman Goud, in charge HOD

      1. An extension lecture was arranged to the B.A HEP students by the department with Sri N. Ramesh Goud, lecturer in History, GDC Bodhan on the topic of ‘French Revolution’ on 30.10.2017.


      1. An extension lecture was arranged to the B.A HEP students by the department with Sri D.K. Raju, lecturer in History, GDC Morthad on the topic of ‘Leftwing and Peasant movement in India’ on 24.03.2018.

      4. Education tour was conducted on 10.02.2017 to Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP), Dichpally Quilla (Fort)

      5. Results are above 90%

      7. Remedial classes are being taken for slow learners

      8. Conducting bridge classes for non –history background students whoever admitted in to first year
