              About the Commerce Department

                 MKR Government Degree College was established in 1981. Department of Commerce Came in to existence in  same year with the introduction of B.Com regular course in Telugu Medium. To develop highly skilled and qualified accountants with computer knowledge a new course of B.Com Computer Applications English Medium was introduced in 2013. The course structures of these two programmes are designed with necessary modifications from time to time by the Mahatma Gandhi University with an aim to expose the students to all core areas of business systems. The department has well established computer lab equipped with all infrastructure facilities. The department has well experienced teachers sincerely committed to impart quality education. They keep themselves abreast of the rapidly changing facets of the world of business and industry.

      The faculty members of this department have a voluminous experience to their credit and are sincerely committed to the mission of imparting quality education.

      About the programme

      1. B.Com is one of the most sought carrier oriented programmes at the bachelor’s level. This programme aims to make the students employable and self employable.
      2. B.Com is very important course which opens up higher educational opportunities in the field of Business and Commerce such as ICWA, CA, MBA and M.Com.
      3. It aims to make the students acquaint with Accounting, Economics, Management, Business Law, Statistics, Finance, Taxation and Business environment.
      4. The course objective is to impart practical knowledge of quantitative techniques and Computer Application to help in decision making process.
      5. Overall course aims to make the students more productive, self reliant and constructive for self and society’s benefit.
      6. The course structure is designed to provide regular class room interactions, seminars, group discussions and case studies.
      7. The admission to the course is on the basis performance in the intermediate examination conducted by Board of Intermediate of Telangana Government.

      Departmental Activities

      2020-21

      1. National  ONLINE QUIZ was organized by Department of Commerce & Consumer club on the occasion of National Consumer Day-2020  on the theme “New Feauteres of the Consumer Protection ACT,2019”  and                       e-Certificates were issued to the participants.
      2. The Department of Commerce, MKR Government Degree college organized a webinar on “A Review on Mergers in Banking Sector of India” on March 1st, 2021. S.Sarada Devi, Assistant professor of commerce organized the programme and Resource person is M.Suresh, Asst professor of Commerce, Government Degree College, Kukatpally.
      3. World Consumer Day was observed on 15/3/2021.Essay writing and Elocution competitions were held that day followed by seminar on the theme “Tackle plastic pollution”.
      4. A Webinar titled “Intellectual Property Rights” was organised on 28th June, 2021 by the Department of commerceS.Sarada Devi, Assistant professor of commerce organized the programme and .Ms.Tulja Bhavani, Assistant professor of commerce, Government Degree college,Ramannapet was the Resource person.

      2019-2020

      1. Department of Commerce actively participated in Plantation of trees under Harithaharam Programme on 31st July, 2019. They conducted door to door awareness program about clean & Green in slum areas.
      2. B.Com students participated actively in cleaning college campus, computer Lab, TSKC Lab, Library, Physical Education Department, and Auditorium during 1/08/2019 to 15/8/2019 as a part of Swatch Pakhwada initiated by NSS Units of the college.They took swatchta shapath (oath) on 1st August 2019 to ensure cleanliness in college campus.
      3. Orientation programme for Ist Year students on 20th August, 2019.
      4. An awareness program on ‘Jignasa’ was organized by S.Sarada Devi, Assistant professor of commerce and Jignasa coordinator to motivate the students towards Research and study projects on 26/09/2019.
      5. National Consumer Day 2019 is observed in MKR Government Degree College, Devarakonda on 24/12/2019. A seminar was organized by Department of commerce & consumer club on the theme ‘ALTERNATE GRIEVANCE / DISPUTE REDRESSAL’
      6. Department of commerce & TSKC held aField visit to INFOSYS on 13/1/2020.
      7. On the Occasion of Honorable chief Minister, Kalwakuntla Chandra shekar Rao Birthday on 17th February,2020 “Green Drive”  was initiated at state level to increase the Green Cover in Telangana State and it is also observed in MKR Government Degree college, Devarakonda. As a part of the programme, students and staff of Department of commerce involved in plantation programme.
      8. An Extension Lecture on “Goods & Services Tax(GST)" has been organized by Department of commerce on 7th march 2020(Fore noon). Bandela Chenna Keshav, IT Associate, Dontineni Associations, Hyderabad was the Resource Person.
      9. An Extension Lecture on ‘Filing of Income Tax Returns’ has been organized by Department of commerce on 7th march 2020(After noon) Dontineni Karunakar, CA,ICWAI,& CS Managing Director, Dontineni Associations, Hyderabad.

      2018-19

      1. Participated in Plantation Programme for Haritha Kalasala on 25th august, 2018.
      2. Participated in Career Guidance  programme held in the college on 7th September, 2018.
      3. Participated in Rally on Voters Enrollment Awareness Campaign on 24th September, 2018.
      4. Sixth Graduation Day is celebrated on 5th October, 2018. Toppers in Commerce subject  felicitated by Gold Medals and Certificates.
      5. Participated in Bathukamma Celebrations on 6th October, 2018.
      6. Participated in Legal Awareness Programme, organized by WEC on 27th October, 2018.
      7. National Consumer Day is celebrated on 24th December, 2018 on the theme “Timely Disposal of Consumer Complaints”. Elocution and Essay writing competitions were conducting to the students.
      8. B.Com students participated in Yuvatharangam cluster level competitions like Folk Dance, Singing, Skit and Rangoli competitions held on 2nd January, 2019.
      9. Participated in Essay Writing and Elocution competition conducted at district level on 24th January, 2019.
      10. Our students donated blood in “Blood Donation Camp” on 15th February, 2019 organised by NSS Units.
      11. Participated in competitions held for International Women’s Day on 08th March, 2019.
      12. Shaik Ameer B.Com III Year student got 3rd Prize in 100 meters Dash-men State Level Yuvatharangam Competitions.
      13. Participated in seminar on “Awareness on Drug Abuse” on 2nd march, 2019 organised by NSS.

      2017-18

      1. Participated in the Mass Plantation programmes held in the month of July, 2017.
      2. Participated in Swatch Bharath – Clean Campus Programmes.
      3. Orientation Programmme for 1st Year students is Organised on 6th September, 2017.
      4. Participated in Telangana Formation Day, Telugu Bhasha Dinotsavam , Kaloji Jayathi celebrations and State Level Seminar Cinare Sahithi Samalochana organized by Telugu Department.
      5. Participated in seminar on Legal Rights for Women, Rally on National Voters Day, Aids Day and Library week.
      6. Presented two Jignasa student study projects at district level in NG College, Nalgonda and one study project selected for State level.
      7. Celebrated National Consumer Day on 24th December, 2017. Essay Writing and Elocution competitions are conducted to the students.
      8. Students received prizes for Essay writing and Elocution Competitions held at district level on National Consumer Day at District level.
      9. Participated in Annual Day celebrations on 17th March, 2017.

      2016-17

      1. Participated in Telangana State Formation Day, Internatioanl Yoga Day, Telugu Bhasha Dinotsavam, International Women’s Day organized at college level.
      2. Participated in plantation programmes and Swatch Bharath programmes organized by NSS Units.
      3. Participated in “Freedom Run” – 70 years of Independence in Mass National anthem, on 23rd August 2016.
      4. Our students received Gold Medals on Graduation Day for excellence in Academics on 13th July, 2016. MLA Ravindra Kumar and CPDC members were the chief guests for the programme.
      5. Organised Orientation programme on new CBCS pattern to the students in August.
      6. Organised career guidance programme to B.Com students on 4th September, 2016.
      7. Organised Personality Development programme for B.Com students on 6th September, 2016.
      8. Our student Mr. Rajesh, B.Com CA (2013-16 Batch) secured M.Com seat in University of Pondicherry and received CCE incentive of One Lakh rupees for 2 years. Sri Ravinder Kumar MLA Devarakonda and CPDC members congratulated on the occasion.`

      Our Infrastructure Facilities

      Commerce Lab

      To impart the practical aspects of Commerce subjects and to impart necessary skills for the students to become successful entrepreneurs a well equipped Commerce Lab has been established in the college. Our Commerce Lab has rich collection various important documents used in the Commerce, Banking, Industry and Trade and Taxation. Various Business charts prepared by the students will be displayed in the lab. The Commerce Lab is equipped with computers with internet facility through which students can download topics related to their subjects.  

      Computer Lab

      Computer Lab has 30 computers with internet facility accessible to all the students to gain knowledge in computer applications. Various accounting packages like Tally ERP-9 with GST, Wings etc., are installed such that students acquire knowledge in Computerised Accounting knowledge.

      Departmental Library

      The departmentis having collection of text books, reference books, competitive exam books and study project reports for reference to both students and teachers.

      • The Department organizes seminars and lectures from time to time.
      • Debates and quiz competitions are held periodically.
      • The faculty guides the students in preparing charts and taking up small study project works.
      • Motivation to students for competitive exams.
