About Department


The department of chemistry was established in 1956 under the leadership of Dr. sri. S. Vishwanatham, M.Sc. Ph.D, initially PUC classes and then UG classes were started. The department was developed gradually in the hands of succession of experienced heads of the department Sri. N. Phillip Devadas, G. Satyanarayana, K. Suryanarayana Murthy, Dr. D. Vijaya Prasad, Dr. V. Anandam, D. Dwaraka Vas, CLN Chary, and N. Nageshwar Rao, R. Pandu Ranga Rao and D. Krishna Kumar, M. Jhansi Lakshmi and B.Ramesh and G. Mallikarjun and Dr. V. Ravinder Reddy.and S. Laxma Reddy in span of more than six decades till August, 2020. At present the department is headed by M. Shyam Sunder.

The post graduation course M.Sc. Organic Chemistry was started during the academic year 2003-2004 under the self – finance scheme.  M.Shyamsunder, Asst. Professor of Chemistry is presently acting as I/C of PG for the sake of administrative convenience as it requires complete attention of a lecturer for arranging seminars, extension lecturers besides the regular contract faculty arrangement.

The department is providing practical facilities with well equipped spacious laboratories for UG and PG. The department organized quiz programmes and seminars to update the knowledge and to develop learning habits and personality development. Extension lectures are being organized for better exposure of students to the latest updates and techniques in the subject. And also the Department organises National & State Level Workshops and Seminars, recently the Department organized One Day National Level Seminar on Technological Advances in Chemical Sciences on 19th March 2019.

The enormous magnitude of scientific power produced by the department is more than 200 M.Sc. and no. of Alumni have distinguished themselves in academic and administrative areas  in the country occupying positions of responsibility in industrial establishment and academic institutions.
