Theme of the Seminar

§  The Two-Day National Seminar on ‘Acquiring Soft Skills for Conventional and Professional Courses’ holds good in the present situation. Students in conventional and professional channels of education have adequate ‘Hard Skills’. They fare well in their respective academic courses. But most of them become unemployable for want of ‘Soft Skills’. Employers and educators strongly opine that young graduates from tertiary education institutions lack soft skills. Predominantly missed are communication skills. British Association for Graduate Recruiters reported that “Employers say many graduates lack ‘soft skills’ such as team working” and “They go on to explain that candidates are normally academically proficient but lacking in soft skills such as communication as well as verbal and numerical reasoning.”(AGR, 2007). Soft skills are the need of the hour because students facing the tough competitive environment have to bring along a ‘competitive edge’ that distinguishes them from other candidates with similar qualifications and comparable evaluation results. In addition to knowledge and expertise, they need to have personal traits and habits.

Objective of the Seminar

§  The seminar with the prime objective of equipping students at tertiary level of graduation (conventional & professional courses) proposes to throw light on the need for soft skills for personal, academic and professional excellence.
