HIGHER EDUCATION IN INDIA: EMERGING CHALLENGES
Concept Note
Higher Education plays an important role in the overall development of a nation. It is a crucial segment in every country as individuals play a major role in the growth of the nation by acquiring intellectual capability and skills. In fact, education forms the building blocks of the nation. Indeed it is medium to bring in social transformation. Our Higher Education system is the third largest in the world, next only to the United States and China. In the twenty first century it seems education sector is rapidly growing and its access to different sections in society is expanding phenomenally as individuals and nations recognise its role in empowerment. Under graduation and Universities education is facing a global challenge with respect to structures, institutions and pedagogic practices. The advent of online and digital learning platforms, as well as a newly ‘connected world’ pose challenges to traditional modes of face-to-face teaching. Yet the importance of human agents in education can never be minimized. At the same time, the ‘connected world’ is far from being a world of equal opportunity or equal development. Economic inequality, rapid technological obsolescence and problems of employability make questions of access, quality and relevance extremely complex, especially in a developing nation like India.
The National Seminar will bring all the esteemed participants in the arena of Higher Education on a common platform to share multitude of its diverse perspectives, real life teaching and learning experiences in the area, policy implementations and intellectual thinking on “Higher Education in India: Emerging Challenges”. The experts ideas on issues concerned with higher education at the local and global levels provide an impetus to the ongoing debate in the field.
