NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

 

                              NSS programme was started in commemoration of our Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi birth centenary year, on 24th September 1969. The main objectives of NSS is to inculcate social consciousness, service to the community, sense of responsibility, personality development, leadership qualities and self confidence among the students.

 

            The motto of NSS is “Not Me but You” inspires college NSS volunteers of their responsibility towards society.

 

MKR Government Degree College is under the control of NSS Cell Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda. There are 3 Units in this college with 300 volunteers enrolled. Unit-I & II are for boys and Unit-III is for girls.

OBJECTIVES:

 

  1. College has formulated the objective to maintain clean and green in the campus.
  2. College also plans to organize Blood Donation Camps every year.
  3. To encourage volunteers to participate in University, State and National Level Camps.
  4. To motivate volunteers for more participation in competitions and overall personality development programmes through NSS.
  5. To create awareness among the marginalized tribal sections against foeticide, sale of girl child, child abuse and spread of girl education during the special camps in adopted villages.  

 

Activities:

 

As per the NSS Cell of Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda, NSS Units Programmes / Activities include regular activities and winter special camps.

 

  1. Swatch Barath / Swatch Telangana / Swatch MKR Programmes in the Campus.
  2. Plantation of saplings by celebrating Harithaharam in July 1st week.
  3. Celebration of NSS Day, Gandhi jayanthi as non-violence, Organizing AIDS awareness Rally/Programmes on 1st December of every year i.e., International AIDS Day, Human Rights Day, Women’s Day, and National Youth Day.

       4. Organizing personality development lectures, Awareness programmes, Encouraging                              students to participate in University and State level Competitions, Republic day parades, Mega camps, National Level Adventure Camps and Integration camps

5. Conducting Winter Special Camps in the adopted villages every year.

6. Organizing blood donations camps

 

 

ACHIEVEMENTS/HIGHLIGHTS OF NSS UNITS:

 

2020-21

 

  1. A Webinar on “Standard Operating Procedure of Examinations” was organised by NSS Units I, II, III ON 10/9/2020   to educate the students about Covid guidelines to be followed for writing Examinations.
  2. A webinar on “conservation of Natural Resources” on the occasion of NSS Day was organised by inviting Dusharla Satyanarayana, Founder of Jala sadhana samithi on 24/09/2020.
  3. Quiz competition was conducted on 1st, December 2020 on the occasion of World Aids Day by Department of Botany and NSS Units. E certificates were issued to the participants. An Awareness seminar on Aids was also conducted by NSS and Bhagya.
  4. A webinar titled “Human Rights” was organised by the NSS Units on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on 10th December, 2020. E.Yadagiri Reddy Assistant Professor of Political Science, NG College, Nalgonda was chief resource person for the programme.
  5. On the Occasion of   Honourable chief Minister, Kalwakuntla Chandra Shekar Rao Birthday on 17th February,2020 “Green Drive”  was initiated at state level to increase the Green Cover in Telangana State and it is also observed by NSS Units .As a part of the programme, students and staff were involved in plantation programme.
  6. On 8th, March 2021 celebrated Women’s Day “Choose To Challenge”.
  7. Oral Health check up camp organised by NSS Units and Lions Club International, Devarakonda, on 10th March, 2021. Dr. A.Kiran Kumar along with his team of experts conducted the camp and gave suggestions to the students regarding oral health.
  8. A webinar on the occasion of World Water day was organised on 22nd March, 2021 by Department of Botany and NSS Units. Dr. Shashikala, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science, University of science, Osmania University was the resource person.
  9. National Level Online Quiz on the theme “Azad ka Amrit Mahotsav” commemorating 75 Years of Independence was organised in the month of April, 2021by Department of History and NSS Units. Certificates were issued to the participants who scored more than 40%.
  10. International Yoga Day was observed on 21st June, 2021.

 

 

2019-20

 

  1. An essay writing competition was held on the occasion of ‘150 years of celebrating the Mahatma’ by NSS Units I, II & III on 30th July 2019 on the theme “Mahatma Gandhi’s Life”. Around 50 students participated in the competition.
  2. Department of life sciences in collaboration with NSS Units I, II, III Organised a time-bound, mission- mode water conservation campaign in the college and Devarakonda town. A seminar was organised on ‘Conservation of water resources’ .Various issues like  traditional and other water bodies ,reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development and intensive a forestation were highlighted in the programme.
  3. The NSS Units organised clean campus programme on 31st July as a part of ‘Swatch Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission’ a countrywide campaign by Government of India.A sense of responsibility towards cleanliness & clean India movement was evoked in the students.
  4. August 1st   to August 15th 2019, Swatch Pakhwada, 15 days cleanliness program has been organised in the college. As a part of the program, volunteers actively participated in cleaning Devarakonda town, Health centres and public places. Door to Door awareness campaigns about cleanliness and health in slum areas were also conducted. Volunteers also visited Devarakonda Fort and educated about Heritage and culture and also involved in swatchata activities. 
  5. As a part of a prestigious project ‘Telanganaku Harithaharam’ to increase the Green Cover of Telangana to 33%, NSS Units of MKR Government Degree College participated in Tree Plantation programme on 30th August, 2019.Chukka Ramaiah, an educationist and member of the Telangana Legislative council visited college and planted trees.
  6. A seminar on “Protection of Environment” was organised on Ozone protection 16th September, 2019, in the college by NSS Units and Department of Chemistry.
  7. Swatch Kalasala program was organised in the college campus on 19/09/2019
  8. International Day of Peace is observed on 21st September 2019, with the theme “climate Action for peace”. S.Dhananjaiah, Lions club Devarakonda-Lions eye Hospital Chairman delivered motivational speech.
  9.  ‘Blood Donation camp’ was organised on 21st September 2019 by NCC and NSS Units of the college, Indian Red Cross society in association with srivenkateshwara electrical and General stores and Dealer of Godavari pipes. Principal P.Edukondalu inaugurated the program. Around 51students and staff members donated blood .
  10. National Services Scheme Day on 24th September 2019 was celebrated in a grand way by NSS Units-I,II,III as National service scheme (NSS) has stepped into 50th year. Dusherla Satyanarayana,   Jala sadhana Samithi, president and social worker of Telangana was the Chief Resource person of the program. He highlighted the importance of forests, water resources and environment and motivated the students for sustainable development.
  11. : To combat the problem of Malnutrition in the country, the government launched Holistic Nourishment (POSHAN) movement (ABHIYAAN) in 2017.To educate the students about Nutrition and Health, ‘one day exhibition   and an Awareness program on Nutrition’ was organised by Department of Life Sciences and NSS Units of the college on 26th September 2019.Anganwandi workers, elders of Devarakonda town, retired employees, students and staff of various institutions visited the exhibition.
  12. National Integration Day was celebrated on 31st October 2019.A Pledge was taken by the students and staff on Unity.
  13.  National Education Day was celebrated on 11, November 2019.
  14. Rangoli competitionson the eve of Sankranthi Celebrations, Rangoli Competitions were conducted in the college on 11th January 2020 and many girl students actively participated and proved their talent.
  15. National Voter’s Day on 25 January 2020 was celebrated by NSS Units. Elocution competitions were conducted to NSS volunteers.
  16.  Awareness program on “kill Cancer” was organised on 7th February 2020. Elocution Competitions were conducted to the students and prizes were distributed to the winners.
  17.   18. Shramadan activities were conducted in the college campus on 28th February, 2020.
  19. An “Awareness program on CORONA VIRUS” was organised by NSS Units and NCC of the college. Doctor Mallesh interacted with the students and highlighted the precautions to be taken for the prevention of spread of virus.
  20.  Celebrated International Women’s Day on 8/3/2020 with the theme“IAM GENERATION EQUALITY;REALIZING WOMEN’S RIGHTS” .Upanishad Vani, Assistant Public Prosecutor, Devarakonda , Kanaka Durga, Senior advocate Gowri Shankar, Bar Association President were the chief resource persons for the program.

2018-19

 

  1. Mass plantation Programme on 28/7/2018 was held in college campus by NSS Volunteers.
  2. Slogans in the Rally to create awareness on plantation to save environment & mankind were held on 25/8/2018.
  3. NSS Day Celebrations on 24/9/2018.RDO Devarakonda Sri.Lingya Naik and CPDC member Polisetty Bikshapati were the guests of the program.
  4. Awareness program on usage of EVM Machines and VVPAT Machines were organised by NSS Units with the collaboration of District Election Officers and a Rally on the importance as voter was held on 24/10/2018.
  5. Clean Campus Programme was organised by NSS on 25/10/2018.
  6. National Education Day was celebrated on 12/11/2018.several literary competitions were conducted and prizes distributed to the students.
  7. National Voters Day was celebrated on 25/01/2019 with a rally in Devarakonda town.

  1. Seminars on “Inter-Generational Bonding” & “Personality Development” were organised on 6/02/2019 by NSS in association with Heritage Foundation, Regional Resource Training centre, Hyderabad. Chandramathi, coordinator of Heritage Foundation and M.Ramachander Rao .psychologist were the speakers of the occasion.
  2. Blood Donation Camp was organised on 15/02/2019 by NSS in collaboration with NVT Sports Authority, Devarakonda and Red Cross Society Nalgonda .R.Ravinder Kumar MLA, Devarakonda was chief guest of the programme.50 volunteers donated the blood.
  3. Anti Drug Awareness was organised on 2/3/2019 by NSS in association with NISD and MGU, Nalgonda. Dr.Anji Reddy, Principal, Arts college, MGU, Sri Madhu, Student advisor, MGU and K.Gowri Shankar. Advocate & Bar association president were the chief resource persons of the program. Essay writing, painting and Elocution Competitions were held at college level.
  4. NSS Youth Festival at MGU was organized by NSS MGU on 5/3/2019 and our NSS volunteers participated in competitions.
  5. World Tuberculosis Day was observed on 24/3/2019.Dr.Krishna Kumari, DMHO, Devarakonda was the resource person of the programme.An Elocution competition on TB was conducted by District TB Prevention centre.
  6. International Women’s day was celebrated on 08/03/2019
  7. Special winter campswere organised by NSS Units I,II,III from 29/3/2019 to 4/4/2019

2016-17

  1. 5 day Skill Development programme was organised by three units of NSS from 15th to 19th September 2016.About 250 volunteers and five program officers from other colleges in the division participated in this program.
  2. International Yoga Day on 21st June 2016.
  3. NSS DAY Celebrated on 24th September 2016.
  4. NSS and WEC organized Gender Sensitization programme with 100 volunteers  in two sessions in January 2017.
  5. NSS Winter camp between 7th Februry 2017 to 13th February were held at Ramunigundla Thanda(UNIT-I),Kolmunthalpahad (UNIT-II) and Manthriya Thanda(UNIT-III)

 

2011-16

 

1.         The college has organized a seven day Mega Camp for 250 NSS Volunteers from 5 colleges of Nalgonda district, first time by government DegreeCollege in the university.

2.         Three Blood Donation Camps were conducted with collaboration of Red Cross Society and Lions Club Devarakonda in December 2011 (100 volunteers), Sept 2012 (200 volunteers), December 2014 (150 volunteers). Red Cross Appreciation Certificate was received from the Collector, Nalgonda district in 2012 and 2013.

3.         NSS volunteers planted more than 100 saplings in the campus as a part of ‘Vana Mahostavam’ week in 2012 & 2013 July.

4.         The beautification around the premises MKR Statue, laying of play grounds and prayer ground, internal roads are done by NSS volunteers as a part of regular NSS activities.

5.         NSS Units of the college conducted NSS Divisional Level Youth Festival Competitions in 2013 December.

6.         College units organized District NSS PO’s meet at the college in 2009-10.

7.         NSS Unit III organized the “Bathukamma Festival” during the Dasara celebrations in September 2014.

8.         Personality development lectures / Awareness programmes were organized for the students.

(a)        Dr. Akella Raghavendra renowned personality development trainer motivated students in August 2013.

(b)        Magician Sri U. Naresh, performed before students creating awareness against black magic and superstitious beliefs in rural areas in November 2013.

(c)        ‘Awareness on Cancer’ a lecture by Sri Divakar Rao, Retd. Lecturer in Zoology Govt. Degree College (W) Wanaparthy, Mahabubnagar District, was organized by NSS Units in October 2014.

9.         NSS volunteers came forward in collecting donations for the nation and for the needy

(a)        Volunteers collected and donated Rs. 10,000 to a poor heart patient Kum. K. Shirisha of Miryalaguda for her medical expenses.

(b)        NSS volunteers in collaboration with NCC cadets collected donations of Rs. 15,000 to PM Relief Fund for the national calamity of Uttarakand Floods. The college received an appreciation certificate from the Prime Minister’s Office.

NSS PROGRAMME OFFICERS ATTENDED TRAINING PROGRAMMES

 

  1. Dr. R. Srinivas & Smt. K. Lakshmi Prabhavathi attended the 7 day NSS P.Os Training Programme in January 2013 at Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda and completed successfully. 
  2. Dr. G. Nagoji, completed the 7 day NSS P.Os Training Programme in September 2013 at Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda.
  3. Dr.Ch.Rama Raju,Dr.Raja Rao  and S.Sarada Devi Participated in 7- day Faculty Development programme in “Community Engagement and Rural Immersion” for NSS Programme officers held from 21-02-2019 to 27-02-2019 organised by Mahatma Gandhi University in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi National Council Of Rural Education(MGNCRE) at Nagarjuna Government College,Nalgonda.

 

FUTURE PLANS:-

 

1.         To encourage the students and Programme Officer to participate more actively in National Level Adventure Camps, Mega Camps and Republic Day Parades.

2.         Motivate volunteers to participate in community activities and create awareness about health hygiene and to publicize Government Schemes in their own villages.

3.         To save girl child and girl education to protect gender equality.

4.         Create awareness against social evils in villages and spread legal awareness among rural masses for their equality and rights.
