Govt. Degree College for Women, Sangareddy was established in 1981, as a step towards enabling more girl students to obtain the benefits of higher education. It has the distinction of being the first college for Women in Medak District, one of the backward areas in Telangana State. The college initially started with two UG courses of study B.A (HEP) and B.com(Gen). Subsequently B.com (Computer applications), B.A (HEP) Urdu medium, B.Sc (MPC, MPCs and BZC) streams were introduced. Since its inception it is working with a motto to ensure quality education and catering to the educational needs of rural students. College is supporting to the students with other supporting services like NCC, NSS, Health Club, ICC, WEC, Student Union, Red Ribbon Club, Pink Ribbon Club, Eco Club etc.
In recognition of its academic quality and excellence, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited the college with ‘B’ grade in March 2008 in the first cycle of assessment.

Ø 2010 - Hostel building sanctioned by UGC
Ø 2012 - Indoor Stadium sanctioned by UGC
Ø 2012 - Introduction of NCC unit
Ø 2013 - Launching of college website
Ø 2013 -Shifting of library, Indoor games, Science lab to newly constructed block, and inauguration of Audio Visual room.
Ø 2015 -Introduction of new course in B.Sc, i.e; B.Sc (MPCs)
