GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE, PARKAL Government Degree College, Parkal, is located in the Warangal Rural District in the state of Telangana has been under the Higher Education Sector working under the aegis of Collegiate Education, Government of Telangana State. The inception was in the academic year 2008-2009, established by the then Government of Andhra Pradesh before the bifurcation of newly formed Telangana State. The Government is very keen to cater the needs of the rural students of marginalised sectors like Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Class, who are from the all walks of life hail from the region of Parkal and do not even afford much money to pursue their higher education in the private sector. The College is determined and has been striving hard to meet the expectations of Higher Education especially the Department of Collegiate Education and to fulfil the needs of the stakeholders of the region. It has been offering the quality education to the students under the parameters proposed by the Telangana State Higher Education, Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Telangana State and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), a guided project in the State by the Central Government of India. The College has the potentiality to have the qualified and the regular Faculty in all streams. The College is affiliated to Kakatiya University, Warangal, which is a public funded State University of Telangana. It has been offering all the undergraduate courses like B.A. (History, Economics, Political Science), B.A. (History, Political Science, Computer Applications), B.Com. (Computer Applications), B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology, Chemistry), B.Sc. (Diary Science, Zoology, Chemistry), B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology, Computer Applications) with an intake of 60 students each. It has been functioning in the premises of Government Junior College, Parkal from its inception vide G.O. Ms. No. 131, dt: 27-07-2008 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, vide proceedings of the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, A.P. Hyderabad No. 402/Admin-1-2/2008, dt: 31-07-2008. The Government of Telangana has allotted five acres of land for the construction of the Building and providing infrastructure. The alienation of land is still under process by the authorities. At present Nine regular faculty members, One Redeployed faculty member, Four regular non-teaching staff, One Redeployed non-teaching and Two non teaching staff working on outsourcing basis. For the last few years, the students have been taking part in the various curricular, co-curricular and the extra-curricular activities which are proposed by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education. The prominent activities like State Level Jignasa Project (to inculcate the research orientation among the students), District and State Level Yuvatharangam Celebrations (to bring out the competencies of literary, cultural and sports among the students). The college conducts several programmes and observes important days of international, national and regional prominence at college level like National Youth Day, National Science Day, International Womens Day, World Population day, Quite India Day, Teachers Day, World Literacy Day, World Tourism Day, Haritha Haram etc. The College has a unit of Nation Service Scheme (N.S.S.) works under the affiliated University to inculcate the spirit of service among the youth with a motto Not Me But You. In the year 2020, which was the year of pandemic due to Covid-19, was well utilised by the College to restore the New Normal. The prestigious programmes like a Two-Week National Level Online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Skill Development and Competency Enhancement for College Teachers from 17-06-2020 to 30-06-2020 was organised with a huge reception of 750 participants of various Faculty under Higher Education across Indian. The other prestigious programme A Three Day Virtual International Conference on Innovations for New Normal from 23 to 25 August, 2020 was also organised by the College. Over 170 Faculty from all disciplines across India enthusiastically participated and presented their papers. The International Conference has been inaugurated by Her Excellency, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, The Governor of Telangana State. The College has also brought out two Journals in the month of November, 2020, a UGC-CARE listed and a Blind Peer Reviewed to establish and accommodate the spirit of the research. By organising the successive and successful programmes, the College has been acknowledged and appreciated by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education.
