About College

The S.V. Govt. Degree college, Palem, Mahabubnagar (Dist.) was established in June, 1963 to cater the needs of the rural area students.  The college is located at interior village at least 35km away from the National Highway No.7 i.e. from Jadcherla Bus Station.  The college since its establishment has been providing good education to the rural belt.  The Mahabubnagar District is one of the backward districts in Andhra Pradesh in which Palem is one among many villages of the District, reflects the backwardness.  Educational cultural and Economical factors are playing an important role for the backwardness of the people.  Keeping the circumstances in view the college is established with a definite “motto” and has been striving towards excellence in quality education.  To achieve this motto a modest beginning was made in June 1963.

Here, I never hesitate to bring the historical background of the college.  The people of Palem were lucky enough to have “Thotapally Subbaiah Garu” who really sacrificed his entire life for the betterment of the village.  A noted renowned personality of the village, he played an important pivotal role in the annals of the Palem village.  He is in one sense a great social reformer and the services rendered by him should be acknowledged in all the times.  In order to eradicate Educational backwardness in the village and its surroundings he made a modest beginning to establish this Educational Institution only with Science faculty, as there was no science college in the near by area.

He played an important role in the construction of college building.  He sold out his own 9 acres of Black soil land and also collected donations to meet the expenses for the construction of the college building.  He also constructed Lecturer quarters with an intention to provide good facilities to the Teaching staff.  Other noted works of him are the constructions of School building, Primary Health Centre, 30 Bedded Hospital, Marriage Hall, Mahila Mandali Building and Sri Venkateshwara Swamy Temple.
