Mahadevpur is the Head Quarters of Mahadevpur Mandal located in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally District of Telangana State. It is very nearer to popularly known pilgrim place Kalashwaram. Kalashwaram temple is famous for one of the Threelingas. Mahadevpur is border town to the Maharashtra and Chattisgarh states. This area consists of rich forest and coal mine resources.The distance from Mahadevpur to Karimnagar District Head Quarters is 115 kms the distance to Warangal District Head Quarters is 110 kms and the distance Bhupalpally Head Quarteres is 32 kms. The holy Godavari River flows from this area.Majority of the population belong to, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes. The Singareni Collieries Company Limited identified coal bearing landsin and around Thadicharla which is nearer to Mahadevpur town.
The literacy rate is very less in Mahadevpur area. The total literacy rate in Karimnagar District is 64.15 Percent. The male literacy rate is 73.65 and female literacy rate is 54.79. The students are socially deprived and unable to go cities to pursue higher education courses such as B.A., B.Sc., B. Com. Consequently, the Government of Integrated Andhra Pradesh started new Govt. Degree College in Mahadevpur during the Academic year 2008-09.
The Government of Integrated Andhra Pradesh sanctioned 10 new Govt. DegreeColleges in the State vide G.O.Ms.No. 131, dated 27-07-2008 and vide Proceedings of Commissioner of Collegiate Education: Integrated AP, Hyderabad Rc.No. 1356/Cir I-1/2008Dated: 30-07-2008 the Government Degree College, Mahadevpur was established during the Academic Year 2008-2009 in Government Junior College, Mahadevpur. The college was earlier affiliated to Kakatiya University, Warangal, offering the undergraduate programs B.A. (History, Economics &Political Science), B.Com (General), B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology & Chemistry) and B.Sc. (Maths, Physics & Chemistry) with intake capacity of 60, 60, 50 & 50 respectively and latter shifted to the affiliation of Satavahana University, Karimnagar district. B.Com Computer Application course was started during the academic year 2012-13 with an Intake of 60 seats.
The college has been sanctioned 2 (f) status by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi vide F.No.8-157/2012 (CPP-I/C), dated, 5 july 2012.
The college has been allotted 5 acres of land on the main road goes towards Mahadevpur to Karimnagar and Warangal by the Revenue Department. At present the college is functioning in its own newly constructed four rooms in its own land under the Integrated Area Development Programme by the district administration while utilizing the building of the Government Junior College. At present, ten faculty members and two nonteaching members are working. Out of ten teaching faculty member two members are working on regular basis and eight are on contract basis. The two non-teaching staff members are working on outsourcing basis.
