GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE, BHOOPALPALLI; JAYASHANKAR DISTRICT

Bhoopalpalli is the Head Quarters of  newly established Jayashankar District of Telangana State. It is popularly known as City of Black Gold, consisting of rich resources of coal mines and Power generating Project. The distance from Bhoopalpalli to Warangal District Head Quarters is 70 kms. The total population of Bhoopalpalli town has been found to be more than 80000. The population was a few hundred up to 1980s. A significant change in the population started from 1990s.

Majority of the population belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes. The Singareni Collieries Company Limited identified coal bearing lands in and around Bhoopalpalli.  The company produces considerable amount of coal from the mines. Keeping in view of the coalmine area, APGENCO has set up a 500 MW (and another unit of 1x600 MW is under construction, thus the total capacity will become 1100 MW) super thermal power plant in  Chelpur/Bhoopalpalli area.

The  total literacy rate is 53.56. The male literacy rate is 64.61 and female literacy rate is 42.26 whereas the district literacy rate is 58.4. The students are socially deprived and unable to go cities to pursue higher education courses such as B.A., B.Sc., B. Com. Consequently, the Government of Andhra Pradesh started new Govt. Degree College in Bhoopalpaliy in the academic year 2008-09.

Government Degree College, Bhoopalpalli is thankful to the Department of Higher Education and the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, A.P., Hyderabad who have extended their full support in establishment of new college in Bhoopalpalli. The stake holders like students, parents, industry, political and administrative executives have been extending their encouragement for the development of the college. The college is determined to strive hard to meet the expectations of Higher Education in offering quality education to the students and the parameters proposed by the “Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan” (RUSA).

The Government of Andhra Pradesh sanctioned 10 new Govt. Degree Colleges in the State vide G.O.Ms.No. 131, dated 27-07-2008 and Proceedings of Commissioner of Collegiate Education, AP, Hyderabad No.402/Admn-1-2/2008, dated: 31-07-2008. Government Degree College, Bhoopalpalli is one of them started during the Academic Year 2008-2009 in a single room in the premises of Primary School, Bhoopalpalli. The college is affiliated to Kakatiya Univeristy, Warangal, offering Telugu Medium Undergraduate programs B.A. (History, Economics &Political Science), B.Com (General), B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology & Chemistry) and B.Sc. (Maths, Physics & Chemistry) with intake capacity of 60, 60, 50 & 50 respectively. The college has been sanctioned 2 (f) status by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi vide F.No.8-26/2015 (CPP-I/C), dated,   May 2015.

The college functioned in the Primary School building from 2008-09 to 2012-13. It was temporarily shifted to the upstairs of newly constructed Govt. Junior College building from the academic year 2013-14.  At present, five faculty members and two non-teaching members are working. Out of five faculty members two are working on regular basis and three are on contract basis. The non-teaching staff is working on outsourcing basis.

The college has been allotted 4 acres of land in the prime locality of upcoming Industrial town of Bhoopalpalli. The District Collector, Warangal accorded the administrative sanction for Rs. 50.00/- lakhs (Rupees Fifty Lakhs Only) for the Construction of Government Degree College, Bhoopalpalli under SHAPE 2011-12 funds of Singareni Collieries Company Limited, Bhoopalpalli. Further the Government of Telangana sanctioned Rs.2.25 Crore for construction of new college building in 2016 vide RC.No.76/PNP/2016 of CCE, TS, Hyderabad, Dated: 15.06.2016. The construction of new college building is going on.
