BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE
The Government Degree College,Wanaparthy has established in the year 1991 with the aim of Imparting Quality Education. The College is located atNandhihills, Wanaparthy. This College is under the Governance of State Government of TELANGANA. The college offering the undergraduate course under the affiliation of Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar. The College provides well qualified and dedicated Lecturers to train its students in accomplishing their target.
ABOUT THE ZOOLOGY DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Zoology was established in July 1991with B.Sc.(Botany,Zoology,andChemistry) in Telugu medium with sufficient faculty. Since then the Department has been contributing a major role in the success of the college.
Previously the Department of Zoology under the OSMANIA UNIVERSITY up to2010,after2010-2011AcademicyeartheDepartmentconvertedtoPALAMURUUNIVERSITY. In 2018-2019 PalamuruUniversity introduced BZC English medium Course in our college. At present thestudentstrengthofthedepartmentis404.
At present the department of Zoology is in north side of the building. The Department of Zoology has one BZC general course with English medium & Telugu medium.Presently two faculty members are working in this Department.The department is provided with two Laboratories.
The Department is also maintaining a separate Library for the benefit of students as well as faculty of Zoology Department. The Department is encouraging the students towards higher education like M.Sc. Zoology, Biotechnology, Microbiology and also for various competitive exams like TSPSC/Junior Lecturers etc.

Departmenal Activities:
-
A Part from the regular theory & Practical classes the students of this department have opportunity to explore the innovative academic thinking through participation in seminars, Group discussion, quiz contest, Elocution & Debate organized by the department periodically.

Besides regular classes department conduct special classes and remedial classes for academic improvement of the students.

Students were submitted their study projects on Environmental protection, Importance of Nutrients in food, Biodiversity

Conduct of study tours has been made compulsory involving final year students to provide practical exposure.

The electronic class room & Internet access to all students provide capacity of students to learn.

Health camps are arranged and medical record of the students is maintained. Almost all clinical pathology tests were conducted by the Department.

Using of Audio-Visual teaching aids like over head projector (OHP), Computer, Laptop, Charts, Models, specimens & Animal albums etc.
Awareness Programmes:

We are planning to visit villages along with NSS volunteers to bring awareness among the rural mass about the dreadful diseases like AIDS, DENGUE, MALARIA, CHICKEN GUNYA, HEPATITIS –B, etc. and educate them regarding the precautions required to be taken to avoid such diseases.

We conduct at least one health camp in the villages in one academic year involving senior doctors to be sponsored by GDC(W), Wanaparthy Government Hospital for Polio Vaccination.

Cancer awareness, Consumer awareness and impact of Environmental pollution awareness programmes were also undertaken.

Greenary Plantation in Wanaparthy streets, giving awareness in village people. Seminars conducted on significance of Biodiversity.
Community Services:

As a community service the students of B.Sc.(BZC) visited the slum villages to estimate the Haemoglobin percentage and blood groups of the people of that area.

AIDS awareness, Eye checking, clean & green, Literacy development programmes were undertaken by our students in the nearby rural areas.
Extra – Curricular Activities:

Providing special coaching classes for M.Sc. Zoology & B.Ed. (Bioscience) aspirant students.

Teachers day celebration by the students, Environmental day & science day conducted.

Participation of students in sports/ games in University level.

Introduction of computer education to select the students.

Basic computer training programmes can be offered to all the students.

Special welfare committee for girls & e-learning using modern methods.
Social Activities:

To inculcate work culture among the students by involving them at least once in a fortnight in cleaning and greening the college and other social institutions rendering free services to the society.

Awareness camp on seasonal & communicable diseases and HIV-AIDS.

Conducted special camps to give awareness among people to reduce the air pollution, water pollution & usage of plastic materials.

Our department has a vision of improving creativity skills of youth and thus committed to provide all necessary facilities to the teachers to offer practical orientation in order to impart latest knowledge to the students.

To educate the students towards career focus, the placement cell facility may be extended to all students.
