The department of mathematics of this college is one of the oldest departments of the college. This department was established in the year 1956. In the initial years of establishment of the department, instruction was given for the MPC student’s pre-university course. The B.sc course started in this college during 1957-58. The combinations offered were Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry & Botany,Zoology, and Chemistry. The department offered instructions in mathematics for B.sc MPC students. The head of the department of mathematics was Sri Varigonada Ramachander Rao. Later another staff member joined in the department namely Sri T.L. Narsimha Rao. These two faculty members tried to give the best possible instructions to the students of mathematics.
ABOUT SRI V. RAMACHANDER RAO:
He was the first head of the department of mathematics of this college. He was also post graduate in astronomy. He had risen to the level of Principal of Degree College and worked as the Principal of Govt. College Jagitial. He had written mathematics text book to the students of second year intermediate course of Andhra Pradesh.
The Medium of instruction at the degree level was English from 1956-1970. The government of Andhra Pradesh had introduced regional languages as the medium of instruction from the +2 level from the year 1969. Such as Telugu was introduced as the medium of instruction at the intermediate and degree level in this college. The subject is being taught in both Telugu and English media.
COMBINATIONS OFFERED WITH MATHEMATICS AS SUBJECT
Mathematics is inseparable part of physics. There is an impression among physicists that the subject of physics includes 49% of mathematics. The study of physics along with mathematics will go in parallel. Generally, study of physics along with mathematics is supposed to 100% physics study. Study of physics without mathematics is called sub standard physics. As such with department of physics is not broken even when the subjects are changed. The same can be seen with following table.
