The College was established in the year 1956 with P.U.C. (Pre-University Course) and the Department of Economics was started in the same year to teach Economics of P.U.C. (Arts) students. The Department has become a full-fledged one with the introduction of B.A (EPP-Economics, Political Science, and Public Administration as optional subjects) in the academic year 1958-1959.
Since the introduction of Economics subject in the college, eminent personalities who are authority on the subject have rendered their valuable services, to the Department moulding the future of thousands of students, who pursued their studies in this college and also for the multi-faceted development of the college. Sri K.Purushotham was the first person to join in the department and also acted as Vice-Principal of the college for more than a decade. Sri C.Satyanarayana was the second person in the department and was a Commissioned Officer in N.C.C. and he was the prime mover in the introduction of N.C.C in this college in the 1962. Both Sri.K.Purushotham and C.Sathyanarayana played a vital role for laying sound base for the Department of Economics Sri K.Purushotham later retired as Regional Joint Director (For Higher Education.) at Guntur and Sri.C.Sathyanarayana as Principal from Govt. Degree College, Sathupally, Khammam district.
Sri Nandivada Krishnamurhy was the Principal of the College twice and also an authority on the subject and he too used take classes for the benefit of the students
For a long period the Economics Department was served by learned persons who rose to many heights in their Academic pursuits. Dr.K.KishanRao and Dr.ChandraShekarRao who worked for a very good period in this College, later retired as a Professors in Economics, Department of Osmania University.Dr.B .Ramachandra Murthy and DR.K.RamakanthRaorenderd their valuable service to the Department. Both retired later as principals of Govt.Degree College for women, Khammam, and Govt.Degree College.Kodad ,Nalgonda district respectively.For the last fifty years many star warts enriched the department with their valuable price less services. Many former students of Economics of this college have worked as Lecturers in the Department of this College. To mention few Sri.K.Rajesham, Sri.A.RajiReddy, Sri.M.Sraddhanandam and Smt.Sunitha were ex-students of this college only
The Department was fortunate to have persons like Sri.Radha Krishna Murthy and Dr.R.Anjaneyulu(later retired as Principal from M.V.S.Govt.Degree College,Mahaboobnagar)were committed to their duties.Sri.A.Raji Reddy, Dr.N.Raji Reddy, Dr.A.Ramakanth also served in the department. Recently Sri.K.Rajesham and Sri.P.DamodharRao contributed their might to the Department. Being a senior Staff member Sri.K.Rajesham also acted as Co-ordinator of this, College. Sri.K.Ramulu and Smt.B.Soujanya, p. Sunitha, M. Shraddhanandam also served the Department as Contract Lecturers. at present the Department has the regular faculty, Head&BOS Dr. K. Bhavani and G.M. Kasturi. T. Ratnakara Chary is working UGC-FDP faculty on at the place of GM Kasturi.
At present the Department has the regular faculty, Dr.K.Bhavani Head&BOS, T.Mallesham Assist.Profe , and Dr.M. Shraddhanandam Lecturer.
