c)Thecontext:

 

The nature of the student’s background catering to different socio-cultural and economicdiversity necessitates mentoring being opted as one of the best practices by the institution. Theabsence of an institutionalized system of having a proper system of mentoring, guidance andcounselling in the region along with the obvious fact that most of the students are from ruralareas and first-generation learners, makes it imperative on the part of the institution to providementoring guidance for all-round development of the students on academic as well as aestheticlines.Moreover,itisaimedtoalignwiththeinstitutionalmissionandvisionstatementaimingto


develop students and progressive lines to imbibe in the student’s rational positive outlooktowards lifetherebymakingthemresponsiblecitizens.

 

d)ThePractices:

 

Mentor-Mentee meeting is conducted every Saturday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on a regularbasis.The sessioniscompulsoryforeverystudenttoattendthemeeting.Mentorsareassigned20 mentees for the whole duration of the academic year. The mentoring parameters are based onfour aspects i.e. academic, attendance, career and general. Mentors are provided with details ofmentees performances in terms of academic and attendance records. The mentor also keeps trackof the mentee’s personal development such as co-curricular activities, discipline and career-related family issues. The mode of communication between the mentor and mentee can beestablished through different modes namely- In-person, and Phone. The grievances of thementeesaretaken up bythementorand if necessaryit is forwarded to theprincipal fornecessaryremedialactions.

 

e)Evidenceof Success:

 

Improvement in mentees discipline, interaction, attendance and communication skills. It ispossible to mentor to resolve the personal issues of Establishment of a vibrant relationshipbetweenmentor andmenteeswhichhaveprovidedacongenialatmosphereintheclassroomaswellas inthecollege.mentees. Amentor wouldbecome partoftheirmentee's family.

 

f)Problemsencounteredandresourcesrequired:

 

Mentor can’t resolve the financial constraints of mentees because the institution is dependent ongrants; financial assistance may not possible in all situations. There is a lack of guidance if thementorcannot studythesocio backgroundof mentees. Sometimes mentors mayfacecounsellingproblemswith mentees family.

 

 

 

BestPractices–II CLASS REPRESENTATIVE SYSTEM      

  1. Title : CLASS REPRESENTATIVE SYSTEM

 

  1. Objective : The practice is being implemented in order to achieve the following objectives.

 

  1. Toprovideagoodplatformforstudentsto learn communication skills and oneness among themselves.
  2. To inculcate leadership skills in the students
  3. To ignite young minds to think beyond course subjects and given complete freedom to manage their classes.
  4. To decrease the gap if any or betterment the relationship between the faculties and students.

C)Context :

  1. Class representative system as a best practice canprovideagoodplatformforstudentsto learn communication skills and oneness among themselves.This novel practice was taken upto ignite young minds to think beyond course subjects and given complete freedom to manage their classes. Many students though good at studies they lack the art of managing the people around them.With this practice they can come to know how to manage them and collaborate for a cause.Many students are reserved and fear to approach their teacher,by this practice CRs can communicate on their behalf. CRs can also communicate the work assigned and can check the status of the work.

 

D)Practice:

 

For every class a girl and a boy are nominated by the class teacher as class representative.

 

E)The Success :

       This practice was an old  initiation and still the best for strengthening the bond between students and teachers.its nicesly implemented for the past few years.

  1. Objective : The practice is being implemented in order to achieve the following objectives.

 

  1. Toprovidesagoodplatformforstudentstohaveaneasyaccesstoviewavarietyofbooksattime at no coast irrespective of their socio economics socio background.
  2. Toigniteyoungmindstothinkbeyondcoursesubjectsandgivencompletefreedomtochoosethemselves.
  3. To impart reading habit among the students.

 

F)Context :

 

Book practice toprovides a good platform for students to have an easy access to view a variety of booksat time at no coast irrespective of their socio economics socio background. This novel practice was nottaken up to ignite young minds to think beyond course subjects and given complete freedom to choosethemselves. Within this aim, book cornerintends to impart reading habit within the students becausereading books is like dreaming with eyes open Library.

 

D)Practice:

 

A corner with adequate space was chosen in the college to display the books in library. Some of the booksof various subjects in the book corner displayed are donated by the staff and old students of the college.Lecturers of the college takecollective responsibility in maintaining the book corner in the coordinationwith in the librarian of the college.

 

F)The Success :

BEST PRACTICE -IV: YOGA

          A)Title : Yoga – live life like yoddha

 

   B)Objectives : Yoga is essentially

 

  1. A spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmonybetween mind and body.
  2. It is an art and science of healthy living. The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’,meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’.
  3. As per Yogic scriptures the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness withthatoftheUniversalConsciousness,indicatingaperfectharmonybetweenthemindandbody,Man& Nature.
  4. According to modern scientists, everything in the universe is just a manifestation of the samequantum firmament.
  5. Living with freedom in all walks of life, health and harmony shall be the main objectives of Yogapractice.

 

C) Context: ThepracticeofYogaisbelievedtohavestartedwiththeverydawnofcivilization.Thescienceofyogahasitsoriginthousandsofyearsago,longbeforethefirstreligionsorbeliefsystemswereborn.Intheyogic lore, Shiva is seen as the first yogi or Adiyogi, and the first Guru or Adi Guru.

 

Several Thousand years ago, on the banks of the lake Kantisarovar in the Himalayas, Adiyogi poured hisprofoundknowledgeintothelegendarySaptarishisor"sevensages”.Thesagescarriedthispowerfulyogicscience to different parts of the world, including Asia, the Middle East, Northern Africa and SouthAmerica.

 

D)Practice:PresenceofYogaisavailableinfolktraditions,Indusvalleycivilization,VedicandUpanishadicheritage,BuddhistandJaintraditions,Darshanas,epicsofMahabharatandRamayana,theistic traditions of Shaivas, Vaishnavas, and Tantric traditions.Through Yoga was being practiced in thepre-Vedic period, the great Sage Maharshi Patanjali systematized and codified the then existing practicesof Yoga, its meaning and its related knowledge through his Yoga Sutras. After Patanjali, many Sages andYoga Masters contributed greatly for the preservation and development of the field through their welldocumented practices and literature.

 

SuryanamaskaraHistorical evidences of the existence of Yoga were seen in the pre-Vedic period (2700B.C.), and thereafter till Patanjali’s period. The main sources, from which we get the information aboutYoga practices and the related literature during this period, are available in Vedas (4), Upanishads(108),Smritis, teachings of Buddhism, Jainism, Panini, Epics (2), Puranas (18) etc.

 

Tentatively, the period between 500 BC - 800 A.D. is considered as the Classical period which is alsoconsidered as the most fertile and prominent period in the history and development of Yoga.

E)The Success :

       This practice was started with an initiation  to better ourselves physically and mentally ; all the staff of the college and students welcomed this initiative.
