History in Brief
The then Govt. of Andhra Pradesh initiated JKC in 2005 as a reliable solution to the problem of unemployment faced by students studying non-professional courses in Degree colleges of AP. The ever increasing prominence of India on the global map has paved way for a growing demand for hard working and talented students good in computer skills, communication skills and industry related skills. The doors of global job market are opened to students who can speak fluently, compute quickly, write legibly and analyze logically
As a part of Government initiative, Commissionerate of Collegiate Education started Jawahar Knowledge Centres (JKCs) in Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) in the year 2005-06 which was meant for few batches of students as it was optional and classes were conducted after the college hours.The objective is to improve employability skills of Undergraduate students along with the conventional curriculum for B.A./B.Com./B.Sc. courses.
After the formation of new state of Telangana, the programme is being followed with a fresh vigour. These JKCs are now being called Telangana Skills & Knowledge Centres have expanded their scope and competencies. Based on the direction of Hon’ble Chief Minister few more programmes have been introduced to transform Education into a vehicle of change and adaptability of the students’ prerequisite skill sets.

CONTEXT
The ever increasing prominence of India on the global map has lead to a growing demand for hard working and talented students good with computer skills, communication skills and industry related skills. The doors of global job market are opened to students who can speak fluently, compute quickly, write legibly and analyze logically. The conventional curriculum offered through B.A., B.Com and B.Sc., courses does not impart requisite skills relevant for dynamic job market especially that of emerging industries like Software and BPO. The Department felt the need to offer training to bridge the skill deficit of students and to enable them seize employment opportunities in job market.
